As written on the Umbra website:
To start off the new year, Umbra Ltd. partnered with Toronto Design Offsite Festival (TO DO), Canada’s largest annual celebration of design, to showcase and form Toronto’s design week. As TO DO enters its 7th year, over 60 venues participated between January 16th-22nd to transform Toronto into a creative hub for contemporary culture.
Umbra, in collaboration with TO DO, provided opportunities for emerging talent and encouraged community engagement with the “Compact Living Exhibition” located at the Umbra Concept Store.
In Toronto alone, average condo sizes have shrunk by more than 100 square feet over the last ten years. In response to this, the exhibit’s objective was to make small spaces more livable and efficient. This has resulted in recognizing a need to make objects that are functional in these spaces, allowing for an exceptional compact lifestyle. Umbra explored fresh and original houseware products for compact living and showcased the work of 11 Canadian designers from coast to coast.
